Govt faces court challenge to get borrowing decrees scrapped

The Yingluck Shinawatra government is facing stiff opposition for issuing four emergency decrees to enable the Finance Ministry to borrow extensively for flood recovery, noted Post Today.

Thammasat University rector Somkid Lertpaitoon disagrees with the Nitirat group’s campaign for reform of Article 112 of the Criminal Code, otherwise known as the lese majeste law, as he is worried the debate could lead to violence on campus. However, he says the group can still discuss other matters related to its campaign for social and political reform.

It will borrow money to manage water resources and build infrastructure, to set up a flood insurance fund, and to provide soft loans for businesses affected by the floods.
