Construction of new floodwalls, waterways dredging will be completed before the coming rainy season, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Saturday.

Speaking on her weekly “Yingluck Government Meets the People” radio programme, Ms Yingluck said the government's water management master plan has now been completed.

The strategic committee for water management is now mapping out flood prevention plans for each province to better suit the master plan, she added.

So far BMA has cleaned up 5% of all BKK drainage. Another 200+ route to be done. Good Luck to us all.

Her 'Tour of the Country' is called the 'Happiness Tour'... Is Thailand a Country or a Kindergarten Class?
The rain has already started judging from the past few days and the dams are still holding way too much water unless you are an ignorant member of the PT management planning committee and are using 20 year statistics and not including the judgment and wisdom of REAL long range foreign forecast experts.

From Feb 13-17, Ms Yingluck will visit upper, middle and downstream provinces to inspect the repairs being made to dams and floodwalls damaged by the recent great flood.

"flood prevention projects for Bangkok" Did Bangkok flood in 2011? It seems to mean the surrounding provinces took the blunt of the flood damage, not Bangkok and should be where projects are implemented to make sure it doesn't happen again. Highly unlikely, I see worst floods ahead as nothing will be done on schedule. Where did the 24 flood pumps at Rangsit Klong 12 disappear to?

Why have the 24 large flood pumps that were previously located at Rangsit Klong 12 all been removed, all the structure removed and nothing but the sluice gate left there? This appears to be an attempt to cause even more flooding to Rangsit from Klong 8 North towards Nakhon Nayok? PS who bid and won all the contracts to do the 350 billion worth of water projects? There is your answer right there.

Johnibbkk - so where is this master plan, that we layman might look at it ? and where do we find details on these experts that we might have faith in their qualifications ? and how will the contracts be awarded, so that we might see the transparency ? So far all I have seen are the politician's promise "I have a plan"

What she needs to do is to get out of the way and let our experts in AG Ministry doing their jobs, which they have been doing extremely well for more than 40 years. Last year, the AG Minister overruled them and the country paid heavily both in loss of lives, and treasures.

I have written the same point about this many times, it's called MAINTENANCE & the local Thai authorities are very good at keeping northern roads open after frequent landslides. The same MUST be done for water management / flood control.

This is all good, but will the same be done for 2013 and 2014, or just this year? A system needs to be devised so basic klong maintenance is not forgotten.

bikeme D1 - Your concerns are good concerns. However, the plans are public, and water experts (both foreign and local) are fully involved in the planning stages. Also, YS has both a short term and a long term flood plan. Obviously some water projects cannot be completed in time for this years flooding.
