PM says thank-you shindig to promote reconciliation

The invitation to Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda to preside over a party to thank agencies involved in flood response is aimed at promoting national reconciliation, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says.

Her response to questions about the reasons behind the invitation, already accepted by Gen Prem, came as Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday wondered about the real purpose of the government holding a thank-you party for the now-closed Flood Relief Operations Command (Froc).

"He [Gen Prem] is a senior citizen of the nation," Ms Yingluck said. "I would like him to join us in boosting morale for coping with the floods."
