Locals vent ire over discharge of dams' water

Ayutthaya pleads not to have to bear the brunt

Angry Ayutthaya residents want the government to better regulate water releases from the Bhumibol and Sirikit dams after recent discharges triggered flash floods in riverside communities in Sena district.

The main chapel of WatPradu Lokachet, in Sena district of Ayutthaya, is being lifted higher as a safeguard against floods. The chapel will sit on a new foundation that will make it almost 3 metres higher.Work is expected to finish this month. Sena is among many districts in the province vulnerable to seasonal floods.

If you look at the water release data, you'll see that 0.3% of dam water needs to be released per day to reach the target rainy-season storage of ~45% in three months. This is the rate they have been releasing water at - any less and the dams will have too much water, any more and you get heavy down-stream flooding. It's a damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don't scenario.

I wonder why none of this idiotic flooding has not happened to Ayutthaya before until now? That should tell everyone of this Govt's ultimate priority, which is to increase rice production to feed its new rice's price guaranteed program at all costs, including flooding people's houses (again). This time, they have neither rain nor someone else to blame but their own incompetence.

I am a yingluck supporter. This is one step to far for her. This will be her downfall.I do hope not, but if she is to be boss of the water agency, then she had better have people around her that she can trust and know what they are doing also. That mean none of the others who were involved in the fiasco last time. None of the so called experts also. Get a few farangs in. It seems that its always a case of one upmanship here. Also how much can i make.how many committees can be formed also. Not lets work as a team. This will be her downfall, one bridge to far. She listened to the wrong advice from experts and people before, she is doing the same again. We can all see that.

I wonder why its not reported how bad was the flash flood, It's all YS fault? I guess no PM can predict this, be fair!

Why don't they bottle the water so we will have something to drink during the next flood?

I guess they should face the facts and that is that there is nobody in Thailand who can handle this water management, no excuses, its evident. This thing is not only what happen in central Thailand, the same stuff happen(by pure ignorance)not so long ago when Hat Yai was flooded. Now, what to do? There is a simple solution, get at least 2 experts from west Europe (they know how to handle such things) and DO exactly what they say, no meddling, no political interference etc. I am sure withing one year this problem is under control. If they dont do this suggested they will have this problem continuously ever year as a never ending story.

Yingluck is the boss now, she should not appoint or make jobs for the boys network. Do they know what they are doing? This will be the downfall of yingluck. The water released from the dam should have been slow and steady, not to cause flash floods. Yingluck should appoint people not involved in politics. She should appoint people who will not take graft, will work as a team, who will not form committes.Who will monitor the dams and tell them what to do, and when, if they do not then they will be replaced, such as the people who authorised the release of water at such a rate, now should be. All it takes is common sense and a little bit of brains. Get weather forcasts from different sources also.Plan, evaluate, rehearse, impliment plan.

The people left to run the dams until PT came to power didnt seem to have any problems .If politicians weren't running dam levels for the farmers we wouldn't have had the worst flood in recent memory last year .Leave dams to people who are trained to run them .
