Crackdown begins on jail phone sex

Mobile phones are generally banned inside prisons but the Corrections Department said yesterday it has found a new reason to keep those smuggled in by inmates outside prison walls.

In addition to using the smuggled handphones to coordinate drug deals from inside prisons, Corrections Department head Suchart Wong-anantchai said some inmates used them to make video calls to their girlfriends and masturbate.

He said he has reaffirmed his policy to ban all kinds of communication devices in jails to prevent further abuses.
