Ekkayuth's attacker 'not one of PM's bodyguards'

Well-known businessman Ekkayuth Anchanbutr was attacked, but not by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's security personnel, inside a five-star hotel on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung said Friday.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung: PM's security personnel did not assault the anti-Thaksin businessman.

Mr Chalerm called a press briefing to explain the incident and showed images caught on closed circuit television cameras in the Four Seasons Hotel on Ratchadamri Road.

From the images Mr Ekkayuth was sitting in the lobby when a man  wearing a pair of jeans approached him and assaulted him. The assailant then fled and security guards failed to catch him, the deputy premier said.

"The prime minister's security personnel don't wear jeans, as claimed by Mr Ekkayuth, and he has no role in politics and the government is not at loggerheads with him.

"It is my analysis that the assault might stem from a personal dispute involving Mr Ekkayuth, or a sexual affair, or that maybe the incident was a set up," said the deputy prime minister.

He also said the attack happened after Ms Yingluck had left the hotel.

"Mr Ekkayuth should file a police complaint since he seems to knows the attacker's appearance well," he said.

@geralda #19: You are right about Chalerm. Maybe a week or two ago Chalerm declared already he will not go to the south because it would be a waste of gasoline. TiT!

Here we go again, the Deputy PM gets a few pictures and solves the case immediately - is he a one man police force or someone who gets a kick out of interfering with due process? This is not the first time he has "decided" what has taken place in an alleged criminal act. He really does seem to have too much time on his hands - why not thoroughly investigate and resolve the problems in the south where innocent people are dying almost every day, a much better use of his time.

We recently have a murder suspect who is a MP, who has been untouchable by Law until now. Now, we have a mysterious punch being thrown at a member of the Opposition in a five-stars hotel in front of everybody. So, what's next? I think whatever is left of the Rules of Law in Thailand is disappearing in front of our own very eyes.

From the order of the pictures displayed in this news reporting, I feel a bit surprised. I think the PM's photo would be displayed first followed by the others including all the villains

After reading the news yesterday, I thought BP wanted to sell more copies of it newspaper (tabloids??) using the holy occasion of Valentine. But as the Govt. followed up, I guess there is more to it. It is February - so Happy Valentine! Hope everybody gets happy!

Last but not least, I must thank and welcome D12 to his new venture in BP blogging - you brought in a new type of concern her indeed.

video shows: "a man wearing a pair of jeans"
    man claims: "was in uniform"
It is so easy to get all the facts right when you are telling the truth, but it gets hard to remember the details when someone is lying.

Why was this man there with body guards, and how did he know exactly where YS was?

She said she would not take legal action against Mr Ekkayuth, who yesterday said it would unnerve many people if he revealed the names of those seen with Ms Yingluck at the hotel.Who on earth was she meeting.

"cousin, said the prime minister would not resort to violence because she is a woman". I don't know if Ekkayuth is lying or not but I was married to a Thai for 21 years and after my divorce had a Thai as a girlfriend for 10 years. I have spent over 30 years in Thailand, I have seen that Thai women can get very violent, cutting off boyfriend or husbands private parts, beating them with shoes or stabbing, pouring hot water, even cooking oil. So I cannot believe Pol Gen Priewpan statement of not resort to violence because she is a woman.

This is a non event, presumably just a tawdry publicity stunt by a discredited individual with a dubious track record. He should be ignored.
