Medical council demands changes to law

The Medical Council of Thailand plans to push for an amendment to the Consumer Case Procedure Act 2008 in a bid to help protect doctors from lawsuits.
"We disagree with details of the law, which consider doctors and hospitals as businesses," said council chairman Amnat Kusalanan during a seminar on the impact of the law on medical ethics and professionalism.
"Most hospitals are state-owned, so [discussions about their work] should be based on medical ethics, not consumer law."
