Chiang Mai warning

The Chinese Consulate General has issued a strong warning about travel to Chiang Mai, following a series of attacks on tourists including the recent brutal mugging of a woman at a temple.

The official website of the Chinese Consulate-General warns Chinese tourists of "numerous incidents of looting".

Ms Liu was visiting Wat Chedi Luang Woraratcha Wihan in Chiang Mai's Muang district at the time.

This poll actually only highlights the IQ level of the general Thai population. In the west children from 12 onward can see through all the smoke and mirrors.

Looks like in Chiang Mai if your not poisoned by the hotels the locals will deal with you Ive been visiting Thailand for 23 years this year decided enough of all the hassle scams and corruption and visited Africa for 2 months and will continue to boycott Thailand untill things improve.

Security should be provided by the police force and overseen by the Interior Ministry; but we all know how they (most of them) work. The only way to put pressure on this people is when it hurts their pockets. So warnings might be helpful and the job of an embassy or consulate is to warn their people if things like this happen!

@bud, discussion 9 'So the American bashers, when are you going to be in front of the Chinese Embassy and demand the Chinese to withdraw the warning?'

That's right! I couldn't agree more. Actually this kind of warning could put off more tourists than the one publicized by the American Embassy because somebody was murdered this time and it was at a known tourist site.

Every tourist attraction in Thailand has people who make it there daily business to pray on tourists .It might not be violent as in this case but it involves a lot of intimidation and the tourist being forced to do something they never wanted to .

Amazing Thailand, With comments such as disc#8. China is the land, of Red shirts.United we stand divided we fall, get over it and move on. Try to be constructive not distructive instead.
This type of thing is very common in all tourist sites in Thailand. The land of smiles. Having worked and lived in south america, Its just the same there. It does also include the Taxi drivers there though.
Its not just indeginous to Thailand. Hand the culprits over to the chinese authorities, then you will see justice the chinese way.

There are Police (1) and Tourist Police (2)...
    (1) What do the Police ? Like to catch burglar, thug, looter...then issue bail....then share profits with fellow cops...
    (2) What do tourist Police ? Smiling, gossip and look at sexy foreign girl in sipping iced coffee...
The attack of this chinese lady have to concern more the Tourism Minister than Foreign Minister. But with Chumpol as Tourism Minister there is no hope for making Thailand a better/safe destination...

It happens in Pattaya every day several times, nobody listens and the police don't do anything. Jet ski scams, stealing of necklaces, stealing of valets, mobile phones and so on, cheating from Tuk Tuk and other taxi drivers. There are reports from Samui and Phuket every day about violence and the attack's of tourists. It is on youtube and on other internet forums... Until now, nobody cares in Thailand, there are still enough tourists, but wait until Burma opens up and get interesting for tourists. Here nobody will care until they feel it. We have seen it all, after the Tsunami or political problems in Thailand, everyone is crying to get the tourists back, one year later the same story start over and over again, tourists are back, so who cares about violence, cheating, over charging and so on.... one day Thailand hopefully wakes up, but maybe then it will be too late and you can start selling rice and coconuts again.
