Businessmen picks up lucky licence plate for 11 million baht at auction

A licence plate deemed the most auspicious has been sold to Passakorn Sakonsattayathorn, a member of the Sukhothai Hotel family, for a record 11 million baht at an auction.

Mr Passakorn yesterday submitted the winning bid for the "Yor Ying Yor Ying 9999" plate.

Land Department deputy director-general Asdsathai Rattanadilok Na Phuket said: "The car licence plate 'Yor Ying Yor Ying 9999' was auctioned off to the highest bid in history, costing more than the price of a car."

My neighbor has a couple of expensive cars with 999 license plates, but, then he used to run the Land Transport Dept so maybe he got them cheap.

- Luck...Is it predestined or influenced? And if we were truly Buddhist...Why should we care and pay enormous amounts of money for such things?

It's probably worth it for an auspicious plate, now he can join in the national pastime of dangerous driving (if he hasn't alrady) without any consequences to himseld! Only to others.!

Um, lost in translation again.

The plate is "ญญ-9999"
In local numerology 'ญ' is supposed to mean 'to gather' and 9 means 'advances (in business/finance)'

I hope this vanity plate will bring him better 'luck' than what good will 11 million Bht can bring if he'd given that as a bonus to his employees instead.
