Chuvit calls for stop to under-age sex trade

Maverick MP Chuvit Kamolvisit has demanded a tougher crackdown on prostitution which he says has drawn 100,000 underage girls into the sex industry.

Mr Chuvit, leader of the Rak Thailand Party, and former owner of a massage parlour, yesterday released photos and video clips of what he says were sex transactions taking place in the Samrong area in Samut Prakan, and Ram Intra and Phetchaburi roads in Bangkok.

"We are approaching Valentine's Day. I want authorities to throw their weight behind tackling the sex trade. It's a severe social problem," Mr Chuvit told reporters.

“The women offered sex services mainly in traditional Thai massage shops.” Very traditional indeed.
But officially prostitution is illegal and this is another perfect example of the attitude of the boys in brown. There are so many areas with lot of bars, soapy massage, traditional massage, etc which only exist because prostitution exist. But it seems like the boys in brown never noticed any of this.

This activity is not exclusive to Bangkok and other tourist areas. Prostitution in this form exists all over the kingdom and caters mainly to Thai men...go out into the provinces were there are few foreigners and you will find just as many karaoke bars and massage parlous offering sex to paying customers. It is easy money for girls who come from rural backgrounds, who in many cases are doomed by their social status to work in low paying jobs. Until equitable education and a change in social conditioning of Thailand's class system, nothing will happen and more young girls will enter the trade.
