Activists want Yingluck probed for no-show

A group of activists is calling for Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to be probed for her no-show at a House session last week, as she attended a meeting at the Four Seasons Hotel instead.

It still hurts
Businessman Ekkayuth Anchanbutr points to his bruised face after meeting Khunying Pornthip Rojanasunan, right, director of the Central Institute of Forensic Science. Mr Ekkayuth said he was punched on Feb 8 by an unidentified man at the Four Seasons Hotel after Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra left the premises. THITIWANNAMONTHA

The so-called Green Political Group has asked the Office of the Ombudsman to examine the premier's ethics for skipping the House session last Wednesday.

In 2008, Khunying Pornthip Rojanasunan used GT200 device to conclude that the protester injuries were the result of faulty tear gas grenades. Her conclusion led to the removal from office of the national police chief. In 2010, after GT200 was proven faulty she said that she had NEVER handled the device herself. However, she said her people used it and it was accurate EVERY TIME. We still do not know what devices or techniques she had used to confirm that the substances and chemicals found on refugees' boats can be used as explosives.

Businessman Eekayuth imagined that he was assaulted by Thaksin's man. Eekayuth challenged Deputy PM Charlem to meet with him to get things clear. Eekayuth requested Forensic Science director Porntip to examine his bruised eye and Porntip did accept his request. Really amazing Thailand in a mess!

PM YS had clarified and there is no need to say anything more by her or the government. The stories and rumours that circulated, the confirmed physical attack on Ekkayuth Anchanbutr and the decision of the green group required that relevant authorities to investigate. If this is not transparency according to you, than I don’t know what is. May be you want to give your definition of transparency. This incident involves the use of gun and public figure. It is now expanded to involve two hospitals refused to give him a medical certificate and the appearance of Khunying Pornthip Rojanasunan at the press conference. I wonder if Ekkayuth Anchanbutr cooperated with the authorities in naming his attacker he said was close to Thaksin. Ekkayuth Anchanbutr is a questionable person because he accumulated wealth through illegal pyramid scheme and fled the country. He also involved in the violent coup when Prem was the PM.

D2: Khunying Pornthip is a very highly respected pathologist who tells it like it is, regardless of who is in the PM's chair, an honesty that has earned her the ire of most senior Thai politicians over the past 20 odd years. That's the best possible recommendation in my book. In any case, all that has been quoted of her statement is that the results of an examination would be inconclusive due to the passage of time. If she has another reason to be publicly showing her support for this otherwise dubious individual, I am inclined to give here the benefit of doubt.

D2: What you don't seem to get is that if she had been transparent from the start, there would be no need for any authority to investigate and no opportunity for the rumour mill to fill the void where proper transparency should rightly be the norm. Even a rabid supporter should be able to see that.

That is why it is so worrying - she didn't, or couldn't, or wouldn't.

But she said she didn't attend the meeting at the hotel! You can't have it both ways.

Thailands dirty/playground style politics being played out live, amazing reading!

PM YS and the government should not say anything more than what already been clarified. Let the relevant authorities investigate the stories and the physical attack. The press and social media are readied to twist and spin any word just like during the flood crisis. What was the role of Khunying Pornthip Rojanasunan at this press conference? Why must she attend?

  • Discussion 1 : 14/02/2012 at 07:10 AM1

Agreed, the PM is not a private citizen. She is on the payroll of taxpayers and Thai citizens. It is really quite worrying if she is not able or willing to say who she met and what was discussed, even if only in generic terms.
