Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda has done this country a great service by attending a function hosted by the Yingluck government last Friday. The function was held to thank all sectors participating in the ongoing flood relief operations, and to revive investor confidence in the Thai economy after last year's flood.
I believe many people in this country were delighted to see Gen Prem and Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra exchange pleasantries throughout the evening. It was a clear signal that the country is now moving in the right direction. Those bent on fomenting hatred and violence in the country must now think twice.
The stock index soared the next morning, thanks to gushing front-page headlines in the vernacular dailies. I hope this clear sign of national reconciliation will prevail.
