State water retention plan takes flak from residents

AYUTTHAYA : The government's plan to retain floodwater on vast areas of land in eight Central Plains provinces is taking flak from residents.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra leads cabinet members to attend a Brahmin rite to worship the late King Narai the Great at Narai Ratchaniwet Palace in Lop Buri province yesterday. PATTANAPONG HIRUNARD

The plan was discussed in a meeting between Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and state authorities in Bang Sai district of Ayutthaya province yesterday.

    To concentrate the water reservoirs in the central province will not totally solving the flooding and drought problems in Thailand. It seems like to control and channeling from the points of headwater. Channeling water via canals to dry and fertile regions would better control the future flood and drought.
