Hat Yai 'was car bomb'

A car bomb is believed to have caused the fire that killed five people at a Hat Yai hotel and sent more than 300 to hospital on Saturday.

It was fairly clear that the blast was caused by a car bomb, according to evidence found at the scene, said Surin Weerasook, a mechanic (professional level) with the Region 12 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, who led an inspection team to examine the cause of the explosion.

Four men and one woman died in the fire, Songkhla Governor Grisada Boorach told AFP. He said 336 people were injured, of whom 28 were in hospital.

disc 11.. you are right. i too have said and commented previously that the freaking violence will escalate to other areas but as usual...the powers that be from gen prayuth, THAI govt, YINGLUCK and etc are just too soft on these muslims. Sigh sigh.... all i can say ' KILL THEM BEFORE THEY GROW'.

I knew and always have commented previously that this bloody muslim violence would slowly but surely spread to other parts.well now what has the Thai people got to say. if i was Gen Prayuth, i would have just started an all out offensive war against this bunch of muslim dirts and finish them off. let the world say its ethnic cleansing. BUT I THINK IT JUSTIFIES. after all the thai muslims think that they would be treated as part of malay muslims if they were to have a separate state with malaysia. haha. NO CHANCE.!! what a frustating situation, when people like me who travel to thailand every other month need to be extra careful now.DO SOMETHING CHARLEM...

I've said it several times before and I'll say it again. "failure to fully address the southern insurgency, failure to stop a terrorist problem that is festering and bound to expand if not stopped now, will eventually, cause bigger problems throughout the Kingdom of Thailand."

The south is army area, not democrat area, they do what they want to do,and they don't want to leave ,they can kill, rape, steal without punishment because the south is under emergency law since 2004

Clearly, last three months of killings, bombings and the hotel blaze show these are well organized and executed crimes. These criminals and separatist movements are not isolated and instead got supports from lack of unity among established political parties. These parties have not been playing their positive and constructive role in bringing peace to the South. Some social activists even gave 'space' for them to manipulate. I suspect the war on drug also contributed to the 'violence' because drug traders can use these criminal movements to fight back.

Siamitude - General Prem brokered a 20 year peace deal in the South, it wasn't until "civilian" Thaksin came along that the violence has flared up again. Now, Yingluck is "in power." What solutions or directives has she given that the military is ignoring? You can't answer that - you are an amazing example of how the Thaksinites manage to blame everyone else EVEN WHEN Thaksin's own people are in power.

nighthawk, discussion 5, saying "every time the Demo loses the election, the violence occurs in the south." shows you know nothing about the unrest in the past - say - 8 years and understand equally little about the history of the conflict.

meme, discussion 3, yes indeed, the South is one area where the present government should - and easily could - outperform the previous administration, not by sending more soldiers, but by addressing the issue.

The Abhisit regime did what you want this government to repeat: it sent what you call "redshirt thugs south" (sic). After all, most soldiers vote PTP.
Do realise that your ever hateful posts are monotonous and contribute ZERO to reconciliation.

How prepared is Thailand to defend the country in time of war when a handful of terrorists can kill at will? In any civilized country in the world, Military Generals in command would have been relieved long before thousands of innocents have died. Not one major arrest in years?

  • Discussion 5 : 01 Apr 2012 at 07.465

The South is the Democrat's area, Abhisit should know what the problem really is. I notice every time the Demo loses the election, the violence occurs in the south.

Will militaries finally take their responsibilities and acknowledge their total failure in managing security in the South?
    Civilian power must take over.
