Inmates blame UDD for Ah Kong's death

The red-shirt United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) and the Yingluck Shinawatra government are to blame for the death of convict Ampon Tangnoppakul, also known as Ah Kong and Uncle SMS, because they had not done enough to right the wrongs inherent in the handling of lese majeste cases, some of Ampon's fellow prisoners said on Thursday.

"He had already withdrawn his appeal (against the 20-year sentence). He was looking for a royal pardon to rejoin his family.

"His abrupt, unfortunate departure might be attributed to his loss of kamlangjai (hope and spirit), along with the sudden pains in his body," said Thanthawuthi Thaweewarodomkul, an inmate of Bangkok Remand Prison's zone 8, where Ampon had been imprisoned for nearly two years before his sudden death on Tuesday morning.
