Senators move to stop charter change

Senators in the "Group of 40" on Tuesday submitted a petition to the Office of the Attorney General and to the Constitution Court to stop the amendment of Section 291 of the constitution, saying the ongoing process is unconstitutional.

The group was led by Gen Somjate Boonthanom, Somchai Sawaengkarn and Pornpan Boonyarattaphan.

Gen Somjate said the ongoing process to amend Section 291 to set up a constution drafting assembly to write a new constitution was in violation of Section 68 since it was intended to abolish the entire 2007 constitution.

Wheteh you agree with them or not, these unelected Senators either do not understand or do not agree with the idea of Parliamentary democracy.

All this for one man. If it was not for TS's personal issue and all politicians swore to uphold the law then no change would be needed.

I don't think those appointed senators understand how it is like to be elected. To me, they are simply crones and proxies of individuals who appointed them.
