Charter row founders in legal brawl

Court firm it has power to consider bill petitions

The Constitution Court yesterday insisted it has the power to consider the petitions against the government's charter amendment bill regardless of the state attorney's decision.

Red-shirt supporters collected 20,000 signatures on a petition to impeach the seen Constitution Court judges, then called off their rally in front of parliament. (Reuters photo)

In its statement, the court said the prosecutors have done their duty which by no means affects its authority.

D12, D13 - yes Thaksin instituted some good programs while Prime Minster (not sure who actually thought them up, but Thaksin gets the credit), BUT he also abused his power for personal gain, perjured himself on his asset declarations, manged to double his wealth and other not so legal actions. If a criminal robs a bank, then gives half to charity, does that forgive his crime? NO, the criminal still goes to jail for robbery.

The Red Brethren seem willing to forgive all of Thaksin's criminal acts simply because he gave them something earlier. But others in Thailand are not so generous and feel Thaksin needs to deal with the charges against him. As long as the PTP follow a course of action that directly forgives Thaksin or even hints at forgiving him, there will be dissent.

Incidentally Peua Thai propose cutting 7 billion from the education budget, 3 billion from the Southern Insurgency budget while cutting corporation tax from 30% to 23%...

Odd that PT should put business owners before school children and victims of terrorists.

Abhisit - People's agenda program, economic stimuli of $40 billion (which took us through the worst recession in living memory), $3 billion in cash subsidies and handouts, free healthcare, free school supplies, income guarantees for farmers, low-income housing, compensation for victims of medical malpractice, 'tong kla acheep' free training programs, extension of free education to age 15, pensions of 500 baht a month for those over 60, 'Thai Khem Keng' program for infrastructure and settling land issues, transference of debts from loan sharks to state-owned banks, low cost diesel,LPG and free electricity for 30 million households (paid for by increased corporate rates), low cost public transport...

Maybe you boys need to read something apart from 'Truth Today'.

Whatever people want to claim PTP or Thaksin did for the "people," the Constitution rewrite is overtly, solely for Thaksin and his own interests. And it is this destructive, self-serving behavior that cast doubts on the intentions he had with his regime of handouts during his bid to expand his support base.

One more thing Englisbob : don t tell us Ahisit was not able because there were "mobs". Because during the same time he was able to politically and financially double the defense budget. What about people ? Who do you want people to support ?

    Discussion 9 : 'bob'
Disc3 Subcoman - Name one person who gets as much help from Peua Thai as Thaksin Shinawatra.

"Me" 1] Our daughter was born in Thailand (Cesarean section) receiving excellent pre-natal care and surgery that saved mother & child. It all cost 30 baht (although I made a donation in addition, it wasn't required. 2] I taught in a TS inspired 'dream school' that featured modern computers in a rugged room with a/c. 3] My family obtained a loan to raise chickens from a TRT inspired program. Want more? (paid off Thai debt, balanced budget, got re-elected...)

    Facts bob, not obsession... O.K?

bob: "I know the government should help everyone... but seeing as Thaksin doesn't even feel obligated to pay Thai taxes, I wonder why he gets such preferential treatment."

His name is NOT mentioned in the reconciliation bill... Thailand 'confiscated lots of his money under the Dem's... can You tell us where it went...?>

Re discussion 9 Englishbob : "If PT continue down this path of ignoring all economic and cost-of-living issues in favour of helping one man"

Is giving free medical to 41 million people who has non before, free limited electricity of water, development like never before of infrastructure in poorest areas of Issan and North, memorandum of debts of farmers, substantial increase of daily minimum wage, project for worht 1.65 bn for poorest areas of Isaan and Noth, free emergency treatment etc.. etc (non exhaustive list).. is what you call helping one man ?

But maybe yourself will be able to give us examples and any important measures of the "best Pm for decades" - as you call him- PM Abhisit for grassroots people during his was 3 years on power ? Everytime I ask those questions I don t have any consequent answers...

If the PT and UDD legal experts are so sure the court has no authority than please move forward with the third reading .The fact that they dont is their decision and reflects the fact that they either dont know or feel the court has a leg to stand on .If PT spent as much time helping the country as they did the fugitive they wouldnt have to worry trying to get him back in the country .It must be a very useless feeling for so many to have to rely on one man to think for them .

If PT continue down this path of ignoring all economic and cost-of-living issues in favour of helping one man, you will find more and more people turn against them... PAD, Multi-shirts, business owners, neutrals... And Red Shirts who realise they were lied to.
