TrueVisions seeks end to Euro row

Trade for Grammy's EPL games likely

TrueVisions expects to settle a dispute about rebroadcasting rights to Euro 2012 football matches with GMM Grammy today.

Nathee: NBTC wants answers from True

It is likely to agree to trade its English Premier League broadcasts with GMM Grammy's Euro tournament football matches. This should end a standoff over rebroadcasting rights in which TrueVisions' customers have been unable to watch the Euro matches. Non-TrueVision subscribers have been unaffected by the dispute as they are able to watch the matches on terrestrial TV.

Its business nothing personal, if you did not paid for the broadcast rights from UEFA then you do not get to watch football. This espisode well explained the greed and selfish of businessmen in thailand, customers are always the loser.

"The NBTC considers that TrueVision’s contracts with its customers allow them to watch free-TV channels and that TrueVision may break the contract if it fails to broadcast the matches from the free-to-air TV channels in its system".

It seems to be the free-to-air channels that are failing to live up to this contract and not TrueVision nor GMM Grammy. The free-to-air channels has made an agreement with GMM Grammy not to let TrueVision broadcast the signal while showing Euro 2012 hence it cannot be TrueVision’s fault since they are broadcasting these channels and don’t have a say in what content or copyright agreements the free-to-air channels are broadcasting. It cannot be GMM Grammy’s fault since they bought the airtime based on paragraphs approved and signed by the free-to-air channels.

The only ridiculous thing here is that GMM keeps on saying that they have to ask UEFA. They acquired the content license and want to grow their customer base. As GMMs own customer base is not big enough, they got Channel 3,5 and 7 to get additional advertising money in. They, of course, do not want to see that True customers can watch it, they want to sell their boxes. If True does not dig deep (give GMM some Premier League Games), they will not get it. In good old thai fashion True will probably try to lay down low, blame GMM and will hope that they can ride out the storm.

Today will be the big test, all those who threatened to cancel will probably do so.
The first England game today, if True manage to block that there will be queues at True offices tomorrow.

Maybe True could part with some of its billions to give its customers what they pay for and stop being so cheap .Their service has become so shoddy that a music company selling boxes out of 711 is starting to look appealing .

GMM Grammy doesn't really want to give TRUE the rights to broadcast because they are selling their own tv box at a cost of something like 1500 baht to watch just the soccer game! I believe this can be bought at 7-11 and other places.

People could watch the games but will have to buy an antenna to receive the broadcast, on top of that the quality is poor.

This is nonsense, a smokescreen for something else. Anyone with True simply needs to retune their TV to Channel 3 or 5 directly with a standard antenna - mine cost B150 - and not through the True box, infact I did not even need one of those as it happened, any Thai knows this. I am a True customer and have not missed a game yet! What is REALLY going on here? However, I am not sure of the broadcasting range of channel 3 or 5 or the third one I forget. But isn't channel 3 national!
