TrueVisions refuses to pay Euro 2012 fine

Pay-TV operator TrueVisions Tuesday petitioned against an order by the National Broadcast and Telecommunications Commission for it to pay a 20,000 baht daily fine for failing to rebroadcast Euro 2012 football matches.

Pay-TV operators TrueVisions says it is not responsible for this black screen of death for Euro 2012, and it will not pay one satang of the 20,000-baht daily fine ordered by the National Broadcast and Telecommunications Commission.

The move has left thousands of TrueVisions' cable TV customers unable to watch one of the world's most popular football tournaments.

    D7.
"People should stop complaining and simply buy a cheap antenna to watch the matches"
A bit selfish don't you think.

The main discussion on here and other English language websites is how the situation is affecting Truevision subscribers.
But, if you read the article, this is only a small percentage of the real numbers affected.
Take a short trip outside many of the towns and cities and it seems every house has a large satellite dish in the front or back yard.
It's not because they all like to study the possibility of life on another planet in their spare time, it's the ONLY way to get tv reception.
Many of these systems are also blocked and they are complaining because they don't have a solution.

Another example of someone who thinks they are above the law .

No matter... it's too late now to solve this during these games.

How about avoiding this kind of future "mess?"

If TRUE doesn't want to pay the licensing fees to GMM, thats TRUE's problem - its their loss. The NBTC should not have the right to make it a law that every cable provider must broadcast the EURO 2012! TRUE should not be fine if they don't want to show EURO2012. they have the right to choose what they want to broadcast. NBTC has better things to worry about.

People should stop complaining and simply buy a cheap antenna to watch the matches. Another option ( watched on youtube ) is to use a Nokia phone charger. I tried it and it worked.

Would you pay hundreds of million baht to secure a license and then allow a monopoly to screen the matches for free? I wouldn't. True refused to co-bid for the rights because they thought they could cheat their way into showing the matches for free. The NBTC should strongly frown against such practices instead of ordering True to show the matches. That amounts to disregarding the fact that GMM paid a lot to secure the rights to the matches.

Another day, another story and more hot air by disgruntled viewers.
Meanwhile the Truevision fat cats sit in their ivory tower smiling smugly to themselves. They know that the vast majority of people moaning are doing so for one reason, the love of the beautiful game.
In a few days Euro 2012 will be over, the countdown to the new season will start and we will all be there
in front of our tv like good little loyal paying customers.

Living very rural, my standard tv is impossible too watch, my net speed to slow and now resigned to not seeing a single game.

monopoly in the thai economy? in 2012 someone finally has the sense to see how damaging these normal practices are to consumers. there should be a disclosure of how much grammy is trying to charge true to rebroadcast. if its a fair price then true should pay the license holder if gmm is charging a gazzilion baht then maybe their at fault. give some information so people can decide.

I've had enough of TRUE. Overpriced, old movies and TV shows and unwatchable during the rainy season. I will cancel and use the internet from now on.

TiT : "Grammy is not only operating a TV service without a legal licence, it is also monopolising the service,"

Has anyone also noticed that when your downtown Bangkok (Sathorn, Silom, Khlong Toy) 88.00FM is overpowered and not receivable by I'm sure an illegal broadcast from 88.10FM?
