Governors told to accelerate flood projects

Prevention work behind schedule in some areas

CHAI NAT : Governors of lower northern provinces expect the majority of flood prevention projects under way to be finished by next month as demanded by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Fast currents from the overflowing Yom River submerge houses and farmland in Ban Wang Pho Moo 5 of Sukhothai’s Muang district yesterday. The heavy flooding was triggered by the collapse of a dyke along the river. A 62-year-old man drowned after falling into the floodwater in front of his house. PHUBAS FAITES

In a teleconference with the governors yesterday, she told them to speed up their work and complete the projects in July, though some, like a flood retention area in Phitsanulok, which is scheduled to finish on Aug 13, face delays.

the regime have only themselves to blame for the position they are in the flooding area is a top priority but spent too much the time to appeaseing their boss perhaps now they can deal with all the problems facing the nation

    D@3 mitrapaap,

It's so good to see open-minded & reasonable individuals who are willing to look around sans the "knee jerk" negative reaction to all that the PT / YS does.

Long ago I predicted that over time, she would become an excellent executive. Even in the USA, presidents learn on the job & (hopefully) improve.

The first mistake was in thinking anything would be a priority or completed on time. Left to their own devices, the money would be spent and nothing would be accomplished. It is a shame Yingluck has to "babysit" govt officials to get the jobs completed in a timely manner. It just goes to show you, that with a budget in hand, spending the budget is the priority, not actually completing projects that will save the country.

Get the job done; if not change contractors; askt he army for help; x% is done by each province.

She is getting the job done! I like that. I'm not a supporter of Phuea Thai at all, but here the PM is obviously getting things done and that's good. By the way, not everything Phuea Thai does is bad and if they learn to behave a bit more democratically and consider opinions other than their own (and let Thaksin be history)... they might not be that bad after all.

She's showing signs of being in charge and being her own person. Prior to this, she really served little purpose on her tours.

Previously, posters have been confused of why the PM was inspecting flood works (instead of only engineers). This article should clear up that confusion.
