Private firms to manage tourism services

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation will go ahead with its plan for private sector operators to manage tourism services in national parks across the country.

Damrong Pidech, the department's director-general, said yesterday that his officials lacked skills in managing services for visitors who liked to be well treated.

The department also has a limited budget to improve its tourism services, Mr Damrong said.

This same business model has destroyed the beauty of Sarika Waterfall in Nakhon Nayok where private business has built all the way up the street to the bottom of the Waterfall. Scammers falsely block the street trying to force motorists into overpriced parking. As far as Khao Yai, Pak Chong as 1,000's of empty resort rooms with more continued to be built as we speak. There is an over abundance of rooms already and very few tourists. This plan is very ill conceived and where money is involved, nature will suffer. Pak Chong resorts are empty because National Parks DO NOT attract high end tourists, they attract nature lovers that love camping and staying outdoors. Bad plan which will further ruin Khao Yai. Most stay only for a day as there is nothing else to do in the area and the whole park can be seen in one day.

What about the issue of dual pricing..will this mean the private sector can raise prices or will entry fees be equal for all...foreigners and nationals. Somehow I think they will rise.
