Don Mueang to be city's budget air hub

Don Mueang Airport is to be repackaged as Bangkok's low-cost regional airport after leading budget carrier AirAsia agreed to shift its base there.

AirAsia yesterday clinched a memorandum of understanding with Airports of Thailand (AoT) to operate its Bangkok flights in and out of Don Mueang from Oct 1. It currently flies out of Suvarnabhumi International Airport, the city's main gateway.

The old airport has very bad traffic jams all day, you will miss your flight if you are stuck in traffic. Anyway taxi going there does not charge by meter as I recall, so it will be expensive and time consuming to use Don Muang. I would still use Swampy even if it cost me more, because I can avoid traffic jams and cheating taxi drivers. Unless AoT can built a express link to city and swampy fast, I do not think it will be popular with tourist.

Air Asia cant handle the load now .. why are there so many people that use it ? You get what you pay for

It will now have to face loss from people that cant make the connection due to the gteed delays of buses link methods and failure to make it work .. Truth is we all know it .

Air Asia this is suicide for you, greed kills the golden goose again in Asia

The old airport had been used for some 20+ years handling all of Bangkok's flights successfully. The new airport is now obsolete after only six years. Who is to blame for this hugely expensive white elephant? The person responsible for this costly blunder should be brought to justice for malfeasance at the very least. Was this to be the proverbial money pit, with billions spent on it yearly to make up for the poor planning in the beginning, or was this short period of obsolesence planned this way in the beginning. It's called a money pit, just like the money spent on flood control, a never ending process.

Without the Sky Train extension or a similar modern mass transportation link, Don Mueang will be a gateway to nowhere, shame on Air Asia for not making this a mandatory part of the MOU.

never hear some think so Radicalizes to have two airport in a city like Bangkok, how can all other countrys manage with only one airport

Lets hope they will also build a fast track train for all the passagers who need to change planes to ther parts of Thailand

This will be great to relieve the congestion, but a fast reliable transit service between the two airports needs to be put in place whether it be bus, train or special taxi services.
