Action urged over low EQ ratings in children

Thai children's emotional quotient level (EQ) is below average, prompting a call by the Mental Health Department for more action by parents.

The department tested the EQ levels of 5,325 children aged between six and 10 years old in Bangkok and nine other provinces between 2002 and 2011.

It found the children's EQ scores had dropped from an average of 186 in 2002 to 179 in 2007 to 170 last year.

    disc.1
I am an 'active society member in isaan.
Not an expert on Mental Health issues, but, clearly any survey in the percentage of 'normal functional parents' in isaan will show that single parents are on the rise, domestic violence is on the rise, alcoholism is on the rise, drug abuse is on the rise, so subsequently the number of children growing up in such an environment scoring a low EQ rating is on the rice as well.
    Parents only?
of course not, playgrounds demolished (IF any!), no follow up after schools out, public parks are hangouts for drop-outs,parents who DO interact with their children, do it at home, in a safe and "normal functional parenthood environment.

I fail to see how the Mental Health Department calling for more action by parents will help poor Isaan families to change their lives. To call for action without first clearly identifying the factors that contribute to higher EQ levels is just making empty noise.
