Transgender official defends wearing skirt

A transgender provincial council member has pleaded for understanding from the public after she came under fire for wearing a skirt to her first council meeting.

Yollada ‘‘Nok’’ Suanyot, or Mr Kirkkong Suanyot as it says on her citizenship card, goes to work at the Nan Provincial Administration Organisation. She has been criticised for wearing the formal uniform of a female to work. Critics say it is against the rules for anyone who is not a natural-born woman to wear a female official uniform. Yollada "Nok" Suanyot _ or Kirkkong Suanyot as she is named on her ID card _ is a Nan Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) member elected to the post in May.

    I am glad to see that today She is called a She. Yesterday She was called a HE. She obviously is now a woman as She has had the operation and I must say She is very beautiful.

    From the photo caption - 'Critics say it is against the rules for anyone who is not a natural-born woman to wear a female official uniform'. There is a rule? Really? Don't people have more important things to do than complain that a person who has become a woman due to a sex-change operation wears a skirt?

    It was inappropriate for someone to take a picture of her and post it on the internet, particularly if it was a co-worker.
