coruption from the top official as they too would like to steal public land for their own use, just look at how many politicians and their families encoached on public land even land belonging to the King. If a member of Privy council could do it why not the rest of lower rank and foreigners. The clean up must come from the top not bottom ups.

Nasa could have told them and supplied the photographs as evidence you do not need the "expensive equipment"Oh sorry they have upset Nasa so may be the photos will not be free after all.Even more sinister could this be one of the many reasons government did not want Nasa to get involved.

A good start would be at Bangtao Beach, a real nice one with a very ugly huge restaurant directly on the beach, just built into the sand. It is for sure not legal, this ugly piece is there since years, get rid of it its a showcase for corruption.

If land is confiscated, a good portion will likely wind up owned or controlled by VIP's. Incidentally, isn't all of Phi Phi islands 'Forestry Land'? Are there any Chanod there? If not, every business there is illegally sited.

The budget at 1-2 billion baht? Survey equipment has been around for a long time and you pick up a GPS device for next to nothing, in fact it is probably in their smart phones already. This smells of budget "allocation" along with the usual "land distribution".

Why don't they start with the government officials that approve and forge the documents? After all if they didn't approve it on paper, very little land encroachment would have happened.

To much money involved, they had tried to clean it up for 20 years, but so much corruption it is difficult !
Only way to make it happend, is to make clear maps and make them piblic, so all can see who had been stealing public land, then the pressure will ne to strong to that they can not push charges !
