12,581 HFMD cases reported

A total of 12,581 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) were reported in the country from January 1 to July 5, deputy government spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ard said.

He said the average was 19.8 per 100,000 people, but there were no reports of death from the disease.  Only one case, in Nan province, was reported to be in a serious condition.

Since the possibility is high for the disease to spread further, the cabinet today approved the Public Health Ministry's proposal to take measures to prevent and control HFMD.

KHUNBJ D1: I think you are confusing this with foot-and-mouth disease, which is not the same thing.

HFMD, a contagious intestinal viral infection is spread from human to human only.

Animals have nothing to do with it.

Many people at first confuse HFMD with foot-and-mouth disease.

Amazing,,,and this makes almost news now...where I come from it would have been front page news from the first case of HFMD and serious actions would have been taken to stop it including culling of forced livestock that no roadblock of angry farmers would be able to prevent...not there would be any.
