Chalerm brushes aside speculation

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has brushed aside speculation that he would be take over the interior portfolio and be replaced by outgoing police chief Priewpan Damapong in the coming cabinet reshuffle.

He said he not heard anything about a cabinet reshuffle, even though he is the person who always sits beside Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at meetings.

"I am still happy with the post of deputy prime minister overseeing drug suppression, especially with the frequent major seizures of illicit drugs.  More importantly, where would Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit be moved to?" Mr Chalerm said.

I long since gave up paying any attention to what Chalerm says.

The man has zero respect for his position : he will say whatever suits him at the time. He knows he is untouchable because of his boss. In any respectable government, he would have been laughed out of office long ago.

    - "Asked to comment on the possibility of Pol Gen Priewpan joining the cabinet after his retirement on Sept 30, Mr Chalerm said he personally thought the police chief was honest and capable, especially in drug suppression."

Really? What then has he been doing for the last thirty or forty years while drugs have been rampant?
