Tablet delivery under way

The government held a ceremony marking the delivery of the first batch of tablet computers to Prathom 1 students Wednesday.

A worker loads boxes labelled "One Tablet Per Child" on to a truck at the Education Ministry in Bangkok. The ministry sent off trucks on Wednesday to deliver the first batch of 55,000 tablet computers to primary schools in eight provinces. The government plans to distribute 800,000 PC tablets to Prathom 1 (Grade 1) schoolchildren nationwide. The devices are made in China. CHANAT KATANYU

It was also announced that two billion baht has been earmarked for next year to buy more of the devices, which will go to students in Grade 7.

Sad to see that the 'usual' anti-government posters here are so down on this educational innovation.

Logic dictates that we at least give this program a few years to proceed before crying foul.

P.S. What did the Dem's do for these kids? Complain about 'populist schemes' if you want, but here, something was done

Mr. Anudith has a lot to learn about Statistical Quality Control.
His statement that randomly inspecting 55000 I-pads and finding only seven defective ones is acceptable is pure nonsense.
You need to know the actual number inspected or the sample size to make any judgement call about what is acceptable or not.

At least, populist platform of PheuThai Party is coming about gradually.

It's accused as populist policy, but it's not empty promise, at least for now!
The PC tablet may bring a bit confusion at first, but it's gonna function better later on.

    Congratulations all concerned!

"will be able to take them home, if parents and teachers allow them". What about replacement for lost or damaged units ? Guess they can buy new one at Pantip Plaza !

It is kind of funny to observe how some now criticize the Government for purchasing the tablets abroad instead of in Thailand .... because had they purchased them in Thailand the exact same people would have criticized them for not purchasing the tablets abroad....not easy to please some that want to complain, however let's ask this question to them, why is the most parts of a Boing airplane and almost all of an Apple product made in China and not in the US or elsewhere ? Just a thought.

7 defects out off 55k units is a magic result. But you don't send them back to the factory, just toss them or give them to the dog to play with.

This tablet scheme was a populist promise made before the general election. It still doesn't address the woefully sad state of the education system in Thailand which should have received top priority to be totally reformed.
However, kudos for the government for fullfilling its promise in delivering 'toys for tots'.
