B50m marijuana bust

Police seized about two tonnes of marijuana worth an estimated 50 million baht hidden under a load of sand being carried by a truck in Nakhon Phanom on Monday.

Police said it was the biggest marijuana seizure ever made in Thailand. The drug shipment was packed in 68 bundles wrapped in black plastic hidden under a covering of sand on the back of the truck.

Three suspects were arrested. They told police this was their second job and they were paid 100,000 baht to deliver the drug to Khon Kaen province.

So who tipped off the police...? We see trucks full of dirt, rocks, sand, corn, cabbage, and what ever all the time...What gives...?

    Big Picture, (D2)
If yaa baa were legal, the price would be lower, help could more easily be sought for family members with problems: the money saved on wasted police resources could be spent on ... education and treatment.

And corruption would be dealt a deadly blow, which is the real reason none in authority want to legalise drugs.

Legalisation does not increase drug use or addiciton. It only helps all associated problems.

Further proof that the immoral efforts to hypocritically punish some drug use whilst allowing even worse drug use is a total failure.

What sort of people think that repeating a proven failure to solve a serious problem is sane?

What a waste, when o when will we all realize this is pretty harmless in the grander scheme of things.

It was probably the weekly BKK shipment, I wonder how much makes it to the ritual bonfire

Excellent that there seems to be some positive moves in the efforts to stem the flow of drugs into Thailand. What still seems to be an issue is that Thailand seems to be a distribution point to other markets so I trust authorities are pursuing that point as well. The Chang Mai arrest is a plus but a good follow-up by BP would help us appreciate better that there is a chance that more families/lives won't be ruined by ya-ba which has devastating effects on life.

I don't think that there is that big of a market in Khon Kaen for all that weed.
