Ambassador replies

I wish to clear up some points of misperception written by Thitinan Pongsudhirak in the opinion section of the Bangkok Post on July 27 entitled "Asean rifts widen as China, US rivalry grows".

First, those who said the Peace Palace was ''funded and adorned by Chinese arts'' are simply ignorant people.

The building's construction was fully funded with the national budget of Cambodia and its internal adornments reflect quintessential Khmer ancient art forms.

egon, an ambassador is supposed to be a diplomat. Whether she or a farang translator wrote it, calling people ignorant in a public letter is not acceptable. Not very diplomatic.

Why bother replying to an opinion of a mere individual. I agree with D1. Those harsh words should not be used in the diplomatic language. We don't want to go back to Sihanouk era when a single word that did not please him drawn wild reactions.

I dont think the Olympics is about pretty faces as much as people who worked hard to be the best a what they love .I dont think Yingluck is the best nor loves what she does or is particularly good at it as she has no experience .

    Brian Stocks.

The BBC is not responsible for filming the Olympics, it is done by an organisation owned by the IOC called the Olympic Broadcast Service (OBS) they sell the pictures to broadcasters around the world who add their own commentators. The BBC only has the right to broadcast the games to viewers within the UK, BBC World is not allowed to broadcast the pictures around the world as this would reduce the price the OBS could demand from individual national broadcasters.

After 2 days of events there is a row going on in the UK with the BBC complaining to the OBS about the poor coverage they are providing.

    Khun Sondej,

She probably didn't know the games were on.

    Brian
by your own admission your an ex pat full term ex-patriot no longer a resident of the UK for what ever reason the BBC is funded by the government of the UK via tax collected and the purchase of a TV license
which as an expat you probably do neither yet you demand that the UK give you free TV

if you have a problem with the Olympic coverage direct your complaints to the TV service which is in local area

or you could come back to the UK pay your taxes and receive the full coverage that you would be entitled too

Really,I am astonished by the harsh comments about the ambassodor,s letter. When indeed the peace palace was financed by the cambodians themselves I think it is very sloppy jounalism to write the chinese did.Brilliant disc 1:I am disappointed by your comments. Why are the statements by the ambassador outrageous when they are true?Unprofessional?I would say the contrary as she is defending her country with sound arguments as is her duty. And disc 2:aren,t the people indeed ignorant writing wrong facts which could have been known with a little bit of research?

Lost opportunity for Yingluck to shine. Since when is representing a country as Prime Minister part of a Beauty Contest? I prefer brains over beauty...
