South operations centre to be set up

PM Yingluck orders a special operations centre be set up to coordinate and oversee efforts to bring peace to the far South, as police on security point duty are warned a bomb-laden car is on its way to Yala municipality.

Deputy Prime Minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa said on Tuesday that Ms Yingluck wants a central operation to specifically tackle the situation in the far South.

Gen Yutthasak, who is in charge of security affairs, said Ms Yingluck issued the instruction at today's meeting of security agencies. The meeting was attended by Gen Yutthasak, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, deputy army chief Daopong Rattanasuban and National Security Council chief Wichean Potephosree.

What I'm saddened about is that those poor soldiers from anywhere in Thailand, murdered by 100% surely terrorists, doing their duty ill equipped and supported, receive a Thai flag on their graves, whereof political protesters breaking the laws, at their own private risk and initiatives, supported by political elites, get 7 plus Million THB from the state.
If I'm the only one thinking this way, please feel free to give the thumbs down.

"Mr Chalerm said he would call a meeting of senior police officers in the South to hear their opinions".

As commander of the Royal Thai Police he should already be having weekly briefings with his men in the South.

"He insisted that it was not necessary for the prime minister to go to the South, as doing so would only be an added burden on local authorities".

Thaksin called him and ordered him to stop her going. Barbie would go anywhere for a photo op as long as its far enough away from parliament.

Oh dear, poor Mr Chalerm has been given a real job now and he doesn't like it.

No more time to waste writing personal reconcilliation bills (which are never even shown).

I'm sure a lot of people will be watching very carefully when it is his actions, not his mouth, which matter.

The guy with the big mouth is one big chicken, we should send him & his son's down there to prove whether this doctored captain has any capabilities.

I, hereby, denounce all of you who plotted to kill innocents who have nothing to do with
    your ideological demands.
Why must you kill? Why don't you note down your needs on the paper and send it to the authorities concerned here and abroad.
If your maximum demand is to separate the land which is not negotiable, what is your minimum requirements then?

If you really want to negotiate to settle the crisis and save lives of your innocent countrymen,
you have possible means to make it happen even though the government policy doesn't directly talk to insurgents.

Destroying lives will only worsen the situation as well as your objective, after all.

I hope her version of peace isn't like her version of reconciliation .

"Despite the seriousness of the situation, the prime minister had never visited the troubled areas to get first-hand information, he said." Of course not, it is dangerous. Send Chalerm.

At the time of the Yala hotel bombing at beginning of April lack of coordination between agencies was highlighted as problem during the PM visit. Khun Chalerm announced the setting up of a Operations centre to be operational within 5 days. Is this another operations centre or did we just do nothing the first time? When did Khun Chalerm last had a meeting with the police from the south to hear their opinions - sounds like not recently - despite this being a major issue in his area of responsibility for the Thai police force. BTW The men on the ground do not want a leader doing his job with a heavy heart but one can lead them through the inevitable set backs to a lasting solution

Pity there is ever only "reaction" not "action" from YS and her team.

The fact that all decisions are being taken in Dubai means that the governement's actions are doomed before even implemented. The Thais in the south will never forgive the fugitive for the Tak Bai and Khru Se massacres.
