Department seeks freeze on Phuket resorts

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation will ask the Central Administrative Court to suspend construction of 10 luxurious resorts for allegedly encroaching on a national park in Phuket province.

Department chief Damrong Pidech yesterday said an initial probe had found the resorts, some completed and others under construction, were believed to be situated within Sirinat Marine National Park's boundary.

The department was compiling evidence to file lawsuits against the resort operators, he said.

Suspending construction now! What a joke! Why was action not taken when planning permission was first sought, if it ever was? Sorry, but we all know the answer to that.

I wish Mr. Damrong would run for pm. He seems to be the only politician who actually cares about Thailand.

Shame on Yingluck for investigating the only senior staff she has who is actually doing his job!

the developers are breaking more laws than the officials, the penalties for both should be severe, not just demolition, but multi million baht fines and jail time, not suspended or reduced for a guilty plea

These problems won't stop until government officials responsible for stopping the development in the first place are put in jail. The buck stops there, not with the developers. Enforce the law.
