This tragedy epitomises all that is wrong in Thailand's warped political spheres...money, power and influence allow individuals who possess it to act with impunity. No wonder why school students kill other rival students they have elders such as this to emulate.

Wow! I thought we (Americans) had some crazy double standards! So if your an elected government official your immune to arrest, trial and prosecution until the session ends? Hmmm, sorry guys I love Thailand too but those are some dangerous laws! How could your country ever think this would be a good idea, EVER?
@Dao; I'm with you mate, senators are lawmakers not gunman. If a senator is in need of protection doesn't the senate provide security for it's members like we do with the secret service police?

CNN says the personal secretary is also his ex-wife?? what will the senator get then by accidentally killing his ex-wife?

  • Discussion 30 : 14 Aug 2012 at 21.0430

This whole thing is crap. The senator takes an absolutely killing gun to a dinner party??? Show off or what. Other story says that it was his ex-wife. Why the Uzi in the first place????
BP as I have posted before, stop reporting what is easy. This is a senator and a political person of sorts. Followup, you owe it to the public since this is a person elected by the public(I assume)), you owe it to your own(BP) credibility to report. To this day, nothing at all on the bail for comvicted police. Post this please.

CNN is reporting this as their headline: "Thai politician accidentally kills ex-wife with Uzi". I do not know if this is true, but why is CNN saying "ex-wife" instead of "secretary"? The story seems to take on a different twist if that is true.

Parliamentary privilege is totally abused in Thailand. In the UK and countries in Westminster system it's only applicable to civil but not criminal offences. Moreover it's only covers your act in parliamentary ground not everywhere. Thai MP's and Senators are acting ridiculously above the law.

The legal position is -- a criminal act is a crime and no one is immune having committed. On the contrary, the the elected member loses his seat having been tainted with an act of crime. The seat falls vacant and a fresh election is made. The police have to just brush up all the silly explanations and lay the charges. Let the police have a proper forensic report and make their case accordingly. Anyone can say, that they are cleaning a gun...

I find it difficult to believe that this was done deliberately. Why do it in a very public place.
However the man must be stupid to have done what he has done.On the question of carrying a loaded gun where is the point of carrying an unloaded gun if it is for your protection.
What dose need to be asked is why are these fools carrying guns when they clearly do not know how to handle them we have been fortunate that this has not happen before.

Immunity privileges should be scrapped the sooner the better for all The ministers, senators, MP's, military officers and civil servants.

@montreal11 #19: Actually I think the story is believable. Because if Mr. Senator wanted to get rid of her I am sure he could have thought about a less public way to do that. But he shot her because he played around with a submachine gun in a public restaurant. He should go to jail just for that fact with our without any casualties.
