Sukumpol seeks to end Sathian row

Defence Council will be asked to intervene

Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat will ask the Defence Council to settle the conflict over the appointment of the new permanent defence secretary.

The move comes after his nominee for the post was opposed by the incumbent, Gen Sathian Phoemthongin.

The minister said he planned to convene a meeting of the Defence Council this week to rule on the issue.

    ROBINS D11 says this: "In a functional Democracy people do not sell their votes."

    Well...

    1) in a a decent society there are not people so poor they need a few hundred baht to sell their votes for;
    2) all parties in Thailand buy votes;
    3) people in the countryside take money from all candidates and vet for whom they want to vote anyway, and;
    4) Democracy really ism for the most art vote buying. 90% of all voting is according to the size of the wallet.

    Beside that, I have many times turned the argument on its head asking this:

    If people are so poor they would sell their votes, who is more responsible, the poor, or those who have allowed so many to remain so poor they would sell their votes?

    In a Democracy, it is the civilian leadership which has the final say, not the Military. So, it depends on whether the Military chooses to honor our democratic rule by subjecting itself under the power of the civilian leadership elected by the people. Democracy is a beautiful thing, isn't it?

    Even a legitimate letter to the PM from a senior general was blocked by the secretary?

    The Army is the only thing limiting the PTP and it's twisted ambitions, if the fugitive is allowed to infiltrate the military with his cronies, who know how low Thailand will sink.

    Odd how commenters hating the Pheu thai and red shirts are jumping on the bandwagon claiming favoritism and the best man for the job should be selected.

    This is what Thai politics is. And always has been.

    Even AV and Prayuth's getting to the top. Was that not reward for a job well done in the eyes of the Democrats!

    I'm not exactly sure of this but I have been told that at the beginning of WW2 Eisenhower was a Major as per seniority system in the US military at that time. But when the need arose the best man for the job was appointed. Now in the US, a 5 star general did not exist, but all of Europe had them, so the in order
    to give him supreme command the US had to create the position. so jumping senority is not a bad thing, when what is need is the best man for the job. I cannot verify the truth of this whole comment, so if someome has more factual info. I will not be offended. I'm always for the best man or woman for the job.

    Behind every great man, is a better woman. This is age and time honored tradition, and it seen to work. That is until two great man have the behind the scene woman calling for a different shot.

    RE#1 - This is Thailand, where, regardless of which political party is in power, Connections count much more than Qualifications.
