Chiang Mai line to reopen Tuesday

The Bangkok-Chiang Mai line is expected to reopen to train services on Tuesday, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) said on Monday.

SRT spokeswoman Nualanong Wongchan said repairs to the damaged track between Khun Tan and Tha Chompoo stations in Mae Thai district, Lamphun, were expected to be finished on Monday, assuming there was no more heavy rain in the northern province.

Work crews were working nonstop to fix all remaing damage, she said. Services on the northern route to Chiang Mai should resume from noon on Tuesday after repairs were complete.

The track in Lamphun was damaged by the flooding, halting the service between Lampang and Chiang Mai.  Northbound trains cannot go beyond Lampang station, which is about 100 kilometres from Chiang Mai province.
