Rain turns city roads to rivers

Heavy rain in Bangkok on Friday evening paralysed traffic in many parts of the city, reports said.

The rainfall that drenched the capital from 4pm left commuters and motorists stranded in traffic jams for hours as several major roads were waterlogged, among them Vibhavadi, Phahon Yothin, Sutthisan Winitchai, Ratchadaphisek, Ramkhamhaeng, Ngam Wong Wan and Charan Sanitwong.

The water on most of the roads was between 20 and 30 centimetres deep, spilling over onto pedestrian footpaths.

Don't worry, Thais have short memories and officials are too corrupted leaving citizens helpless like always. Promises always come with excuses, money compensation given to shut people up. That sums up the government.

The look of this flooding is not unusual, as I have seen it many times in Bangkok over the years. The part that was unusual was the blocking off of Bangkok last year and subsequent upstream major flooding. If everything is allowed to flow through this is what you get but no major home flooding and vehicles can still get around. Please be wise and go with the flow this year, so to speak.

    Discussion 1,
They will probably budget because it will be more for some pockets..

This shows the ridiculous nature of the governments blanket claim to be able to prevent flooding. This is a tropical country with periods of high and unpredictable rainfall in a world where the climate is changing. A little more humility and realism from PT would be better for the country.

I can't help to worry a bit. What if climate change moves on.

Not to worry; the Yingluck is on the case and has guaranteed since last year that there would be no floods. She will be on hand soon to give a photo opportunity as she displays her official posture while finger-pointing at something off in the distance. Apparently this is supposed to convey taking charge, concern, and leadership. All I get from it is the PM giving us the finger.

Looks like rain control was not part of the governments flood projects. Well maybe they can budget for it next year.
