DSI denies targeting Abhisit, Suthep

The Department of Special Investigation is only performing its duty as a law enforcement agency and has not targeted former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his deputy Suthep Thaugsuban for premeditated murder charges as alleged, DSI chief Tarit Pengdit said on Thursday.

Mr Tarit said the DSI is a law enforcement agency. Once legal cases in connection with the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protests are categorised as special cases the DSI is duty-bound to proceed with legal action against all sides in the conflict.

A total of 213 cases have been filed against UDD members. They include 64 terrorism cases, 62 arson cases and 87 other related cases, he said.

It's pretty obvious for all to see that the rich, the powerful & those in positions of authority really don't need to fear legal repurcussions of their actions in Thailand.
Having powerful connections helps whatever type of justice is desired be delivered in time. It is just very sad there'll never likely be any accountability for all the innocent protesters & journalists lost in demonstrations here.
Seeing posters here squabble and pick at each other's equally non objective views here is tiresome. Thaksin, unfortunately is too conniving and too well connected to ever face proper justice. & through connections abhisit & co won't ever have

    brilliant D28/30

I can't believe you expect people to accept anything published in The Nation, not without independent corroboration.

I agree that under Dems or PT it makes little difference, there is no chance of even handed justice. The only people charged with 'terrorism' who are denied bail and held in prison are UDD members, the PAD airport 'terrorists' are all out on bail, they were out within a few hours of being charged with terrorism and have been out ever since.

So was the DSI also only performing its duty as a law enforcement agency by magically removing Thaksin's arrest warrant last year during a routine "computer maintenance". It seems that people forgot about that incident so quick. Truth be told DSI is always the target of the opposition depending on who is running the country.

I understand the investigations began prior to Abhisit defeat at the polls and it could be said he had a hand in starting the investigations. Yet now Abhisit and his sidekick are implicated as possible prime suspects they look to be attempting to discredit the investigation. Also as some far from intelligent posting here start to realise the direction the investigation is going the numbskulls turn away in disbelief and look another way with noses in the air they brand reds riotous terrorists in some kind of fictional dramatic propaganda war where deaths of innocents can be written off as collateral damage and the perpetrators use hand gel.

In Thailand, ALL prosecutions of politicians are politically motivated (rich and powerful people do not normally need to fear the legal system - regardless of their crimes - unless they have even more powerful enemies).

Discussion 28 brilliant : sorry to see that the dems have lost the protection privilege that they used to have during the AV's tenure. AV and Suthep have no choice but to face the justice this time.

Discussion 30 brilliant : dozens of police officers surrounded the SC Park hotel when Arisman was sliding down from a rope that was broadcasted live on tv channel. You may wonder why police officers downstairs did not arrest him if it were an escape. Did you watch the live broadcast?

The taxi driver was killed by gunfire from weapons of military personnel who fired at a van that drove into a restricted area, military personnel said the van driver ignored instructions to stop. Soldiers, fearing a potential car bomb, opened fire. Case closed, no one will get prosecuted.
