DSI denies targeting Abhisit, Suthep

The Department of Special Investigation is only performing its duty as a law enforcement agency and has not targeted former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his deputy Suthep Thaugsuban for premeditated murder charges as alleged, DSI chief Tarit Pengdit said on Thursday.

Mr Tarit said the DSI is a law enforcement agency. Once legal cases in connection with the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protests are categorised as special cases the DSI is duty-bound to proceed with legal action against all sides in the conflict.

A total of 213 cases have been filed against UDD members. They include 64 terrorism cases, 62 arson cases and 87 other related cases, he said.

@domdunnn. 'The issue with regard to AV and ST is not about whether they were provoked, of course they were, the issue is was their response proportionate'.

No, in fact they were way too tolerant. At Pan Fah the army were attacked with war weapons by self declared unarmed protesters. How would say the UK or American army/government have reacted ? They would have retaliated with even more force, much more and many more people would have been killed.

Dumdon , corruption works in weird ways right ?

All this criticism of Tarit's political bias against the opposition smacks of, er...bias.

In December 2010 Tarit was taking the lead in trying to get Jutaporn's bail revoked and I don't remember this forum being full of complaints of political bias against the opposition.

In April 2011 the DSI was trying to get the bail of 9 UDD leaders revoked on the grounds that they had insulted the monarchy, same silence on this forum.

If the DSI is only doing its duty, it must also proceed with legal action against Somchai Wongsawat for those protesters killed or wounded when he ordered the police to fire exlpoding gas grenades at them.

I suspect that the reason that the MIB are not being pursued is because if they are rounded up it will become clear what their day jobs were.

Instead of DSI appearing professional and impartial - as they should - Khun Tarit ill timed premeditated murder charge comments have made them appear both unprofessional and politically motivated. He should at least have waited the outcome of the other court cases and consulted the prosecuting authority before opining on possible further action. Why do so called professionals in high profile jobs find it so hard to think and weigh their words before commenting especially in sensitive areas which the red shirt protest and violence clearly is?

Disc13 - Both Abhisit and Suthep have said on many, many occasions that they are prepared to face the courts.

Will your idol in Dubai face the courts for Tak Bai, Krue Seh, the War on Suspects and the Sacking of Bangkok? Oh and the other charges he ran away from?

"The TRC's report on page 243 also stated that the agency which gave the orders must also take the legal responsibilty and be liable for criminal action."

Ex.CRES bosses have no courage to shoulder responsibility for their wrong-doings.

The Government is tasked with the responsibility of protecting the citizens of the Kingdom. When terrorist groups, either armed or unarmed, decide to take the law into their own hands, destroy property. limit travel and cause unnecessary distress the Government, by any means required, including the use of armed force needs to restore order. The rhetoric spouted by the UDD before, during and after the events of 2010 only showed their clear intent to disrupt the democratic (?) processes of Thailand and discredit the Abhisit government by any means possible, even at the expense of civilian lives and businesses. It was unfortunate that lives were lost, on both sides, but overall the government acted with restraint or else the body count could have gone much higher.

Mr Tarit said he personally felt that all sides involved must share the responsibility for the losses and damage.

    Not so !
