North Koreans arrested in Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai marines have arrested 12 North Koreans on charges of illegal entry, Commodore Sophon Ratchatapirak, chief of the Mekong River Peace Keeping Force, said on Thursday.

A group of seven North Koreans - one male, five women and one girl - had been caught illegally entering Thailand from the Mekong River at Ban Huay Kiang, a Thai-Lao border village in tambon Wiang, he said.

Marines then found and arrested a second group of five North Koreans, one male and four females, on the river bank not far from the border village, he added.

    and this affected national security""

The Thai military is always quoting national security, , so tell me, how does them using Thailand as a transit point affect it?

As a former Refugee to Thailand, I'm sure Thailand will find a suitable solution to these N.Korean refugees. After all, Thailand is a well established country with UNHCR and among the best country to handle this small issue. Treat them well... and they will never forget the land of the smile and generosity; send them back, and they all will be prosecuted. Dictator government has no mercy and leniency is out of their vocab. Feed them a bowl of rice from the land of hope, give them a pure water from the heart of the good Thai people.

Will Thailand show leniency? After all, they have no guns or drugs.

I do hope they will not just get returned to North Korea, surely if anyone deserves asylum then it is the small number of lucky escapees from that dictatorship?

If they send them back, they are dead. They might as well shoot them on the spot.
