Surely boobytraps targeting plantation workers, killing of buddhist monks, roadside bombs or throwing granades into markets cant be an insurgency that is carried by a silent majority. Muslims go to markets too or was it a buddhist only market? Surely muslims too occupy those cities were carbombs explode go to markets and shops?

These muslims face no oppression or discrimination under thai rule. I dont think muslims are that unhappy like those in palestine.

I dont buy that buddhists and muslims dont mix. If not with buddhism what religion does islam mix with??? I also dont believe that a majority of muslims are fundamentalists that agree with the killing of innocents of other religions. I believe they themselves are opressed by the extremeists.

Shame on the Thai Government. Every day these thugs are killing innocent Thai people and the Gov does nothing but pick up the dead.
When is someone in this Government going to do something. I can't believe Thai people stand for this. Amazing.
Any other country would send in the military and find these thugs and kill them. Here in Thailand they do nothing.

"Is it time to give our Israeli friends a call yet"?
Here's news for you. Do you remember the Muslim the Thais believe is behind the unrest in the south Abdel Basset Sayda, lives in excise in Sweden, Remember? Well he had talks with President Putin on July 11th because he is the leader of the US-backed opposition organization, Syrian National Council, and tolled by Putin not to attempt to outst Assad!
Now all you have to do is connect the dots.

  • Discussion 12 : 30 Sep 2012 at 20.0512

Off course when the terrorist see that the goverment is scared and that they do nothing to solve the problem then the terrorist r free to do whatevr they want and thats what is hapening now ...this is the consequence. Sad for the people in the south but you have no goverment to help you ...you r alone against the terrorist

Khun Luetzow #9, the issue is extremely complex, with both religious, political, and historical flavors. The main reason of the conflict is Islamic majority and Buddhist minority simply don't mix!

  • Discussion 10 : 30 Sep 2012 at 19.1610

d9: As with ALL terrorist/sepratist situations around the world, the percentage of population that are active insurgents is a very small number. However, there is always a larger percentage that are non-violent but (for some reason) feel abused by the authorities and therefore are not willing to cooperate with them in hunting down the insurgents.

The most important reason for discussions is not to give the "terrorists" what they demand but rather to erode the support that they have amongst the non-violent majority.
