Democrats claim plot over blocked sewers

The Democrat Party yesterday said that sandbags and lumps of concrete recently found in the city's sewerage system had been planted there.

About 100 sandbags, concrete slabs, plastic bottles and rocks were found in sewerage lines in Min Buri and Chatuchak districts. The debris was found during a dredging project carried out by by inmates being supervised by the Corrections Department and the Metropolitan Police Bureau.

Deputy government spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ard said on Saturday that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) must explain how the materials came to be inside the sewerage system.

Quit arguing about how the garbage got in the sewers just get them properly cleaned out as soon as possible The thoughtless dumping of trash such as plastic bottles, bags and household waste is symptomatic of a general malaise in Thailand regarding proper disposal of garbage.

Thanks onlyasking at least some one has come up with a good explanation. But that beggars belief we are saying nothing has been done to clear the sewers in 12 months.Again I ask who has been paid to do the job it can not be difficult to find out.Or may be we do not keep accounts on account of someone may find out where the money is really going.

Like disc 1 said, they probably forgot to bring it out last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Dems allegations were correct, though D1 provides a good explanation too. PTP schemes/scams has no boundaries.

I have seen street sweepers sweeping all sorts of rubbish (including sand) into the drain system instead of picking it up to dispose of properly.

While I find it a bit dared to accuse PT for a plot like this, they are quite able to everything to reach their goal of getting control of everything. Still, if somebody regularly checked the system, at least before and during the rainy season, they would find this kind of problems. And as D1 says, there was so much sand used in past years flood, you do not really think Thais carried all these bags back to some place where they came from. There must have been easier ways of getting rid of the sand and people here usually use the easiest ways.

The indiscriminate, criticise - anything - that moves policy by the Opposition has reached new heights of absurdity with this accusation, which has been supported by no evidence whatsoever.

Yes, there was a plot - by the Prachathipat party.

I know how the sand bags came inside the sewers. During last years flood, the flood water popped out many manhole lids and people put sand bags in these holes to prevent people from falling in and to stop flood water from comming out of the sewerage system. Many of these bags would have slipped down the holes into the sewerage system. One can see an example of this near Fashion Island where there is still a man hole with no lid, but filled with sandbags.
