Don Mueang airport reopens

Flights out of Don Mueang proceeded without a hitch on Monday, the old Bangkok airport's first day of business after renovations following last year's heavy flood damage.

The budget carrier Thai AirAsia (TAA), which has relocated from Suvarnabhumi Airport, inaugurated its new home with a flight to Bali at 6.15am.

Officials said 281 domestic and international flights used the airport yesterday and they expect 350-370 flights per day in the future.

Don Muang is far more welcoming than 'Swampy' which is still not finished, has very poor quality workmanship, and used the cheapest materials available at the time. Next time your there just have a look at the floor tiles, gaps between the floor slabs, ovehead electrical conduits, etc, etc. It's not just the runways that need attention.

At least, this one doesn't have sinking runways, despite of being purposely allowed to be flooded last year!

When you arrive Bangkok make sure that you tell people to pick you up at the right airport. Otherwise you are on your own dealing with vulture style taxis and you might end up at the other planet. I'm happy with the old one, less walk, more nostalgic. welcom back my old friend.

This airport was used for 100 years without problem .The new airport was used less than a decade and its not good enough .Corruption downsized it by how much ?

Great news. Swampy is a pain in the rear.

I'm a nobody, but I advocated Don Muang never close. Imagine the savings if ii didn't need to be shut down and then re-opened years later. Plus, it's been 9 years, and now were getting a semblence of a public transport between the two airports, yet it's still problematic.

Why does every transport link stop at midnight? Many passengers arriving from oversea don't get out of the airport before midnight, and others would like to arrive after midnight, for an early start! Services should run through the night. an airport is normally 24 hour operation, of course I am also thinking about staff too!So get it running for everyone.

Bravo,It will certainly ease congestion elsewhere. It dose look like someone overlooked transport between the two airports though it should have been considered there would be a need and well in advance of the new opening again reactive rather than proactive planing one bus an hour! .How do the authorities expect passengers to travel on the rip of taxis.

Excellent news, if the BTS get's hooked up on Don Muang as well then that would make an excellent LCCT airport ....try the LCCT in Kuala Lumpur and you will find yourself like in heaven when using Don Muang.
