Weekend deluge predicted

The Meteorological Department has warned people to brace for heavy to very heavy rain in some areas in all regions on Saturday and Sunday.

The warning, issued at 10am Monday, said that a tropical depression was centred in the middle of the South China Sea about 600 kilometres east of Danang, Vietnam, with maximum sustained winds of about 55km per hour.

It will develop into a tropical storm on Tuesday and Wednesday with no direct effect on Thailand, said forecasters, and would make landfall in central Vietnam on Thursday and Friday.

D4 in general you are right people should give their suggestions (if they have) however one of the problems is that the people in charge of water management (I do not blame a certain party in total) do not listen to any suggestion at all especially if they come from a foreigner or experts from a foreign country. By the way people know at least one of the reason for flooding getting worse: Klongs filled with garbage or just filled-up to build on blocking the natural flow of the water and this is where the Government should act.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department ... affecting 179,074 people ...
    Sure it's not 179,075 people?
Better yet, help your Export prediction department for correct numbers.
@abbub: I don't like your red vision but this time you got treated unfairly.

first of all ptp promised a year ago that there would be no flooding this year.
we can see what the situation is...
huge amount of taxpayer money(I am one of them, taxpayer I mean) disappeared in opened pockets and the situation is not much better than other years, even though the quantity of rainfall has been much lower than last year.
do your math you supporter of ptp. (and yes I vote DEM)

I find this wonderfully interesting and sadly indicative of the BP comments sections in general.

    What was my comment?

I suggested instead of bashing the PT to give concrete suggestions. I made it clear I was not being confrontational but felt suggestions would be far more productive than using the opportunity to attack the PT. I also made it clear I believe the PT mishandled last years floods.

And yet, in a matter of minutes: 8 thumbs down.

I wonder, do some commenters even bother reading what I write, or does their heartbeat rise just seeing the name "ABBUB"?

What you say is not true, before they filled the khlongs and didnt open the gates at the dams at unproper time this stuff only happen about once every 100 years, now it happen every year, can you see the difference? I tell you what the problem is, it's grid and neglect. For a starter walk down anywhere south from Silom or Sathon except the new 4 lane roads and you will find out that there is no boardwalk or the boardwalk is occupied by hawker, you know why, because the people are even to gridy to give away 50cm of their space so that others can walk, this is regrettable a deeply unsocial behavior, you will never see things like that e.g. in Myanmar or Cambodia, Malaysia or Singapore because they care about others.

BLUE D1: This is not PT excuses propaganda. This is a news article. Do you understand the difference or is the temptation to bash the PT at every turn too strong?

I would be interested in knowing what more the government could have done to prepare for the eventuality of the floods. I mean Thailand has been flooding for hundreds, probably thousands of years. So no suddenly the PT are in government and expected to rid the nation of the consequences of floods in less than one year?

Personally I believe they mishandled the floods last year. And I am not being confrontational. I just think, if you say they should have done more, you could tell us what more could, and should have been done. Why not inform readers of your ideas instead. I personally believe better dredging helps.

AND!!Is this just to make an excuse before people are flooded again due to a lack of flood management and poor or no maintenance. Thy have plenty of money to prevent it or at least they had.
But yes they are at least letting the public now what to expect.
