Abhisit draft dodge probe resurrected

Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat vows to press ahead with efforts to strip the opposition leader of his military rank.

He believes Abhisit Vejjajiva dodged mandatory conscription and used a falsified document to apply for an army position as a young man.

ACM Sukumpol said the Council of State had sent its opinion on the issue back to the Defence Ministry, but he would not let the matter rest. "The issue needs to be pushed forward to the end. We can't ignore it," he said.

It seems rather bizarre that a high government minister has nothing better to do than to try and revive an allegation, which has reportedly already been disproven, in an attempt to try to take away a low ranking military title from an individual who, to the best of my knowledge, never uses it. Meanwhile, no attempt has been made to take away the title of a certain legally convicted, fugitive holder of a high ranking police title, a title which is continuously used to add an air of distinction to someone who, by all normal criteria, should be, to put it politely, a source of embarrassment to any honest Thai policeman. Double standard perhaps???

Personal agenda. Look at the hierarchy of the Thai Gov't and see where the ACM sits. I don't mean within the YS party but what the chain of command is. He is very close to the top of the ladder and really perceives that it is his proper position instead of really focusing on the benefit of the country.

Well, now we know what is more important than solving the problems in the South, preparing Bangkok from impending floods and finding out where 100 billion baht went in the last rice "scheme". Reds are always happy when the attention is deliberately thrust on a meaningless issue and taken away from their failures and in-fighting.

In a country that trots out the 'statute of limitations' on everything from massive land fraud to outright theft you would think that a case as old as this couldn't even be reviewed whether it is true or not.

I would have thought ACM Sukumpol and the Defence Ministry had more important things to do...but obviously I was wrong.
If I was Khun Abhisit and the military personal registration documents wasn't falsified,I would slap a defamation lawsuit in the defence minister's face to save us tax-payers some money, which will otherwise be spent on endless commitees for political gain.

The council of state is his own legal advisory body. Just what "end" does he have in mind?
