Warning: Heavy rain, flash floods

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department on Tuesday morning issued a warning for people in the Northeast, Central plains, East and the South to prepare for heavy rain, flash flooding, forest run-off and landslides this weekend.

As tropical storm Gaemi, formed in the middle of the South China Sea, passes through Laos, lower parts of the Northeast and the Central plains of Thailand will experience widespread scattered rain with heavy falls in some areas of these regions on Oct 6 and 7, the department’s director general Chatchai Promlert said.

People living near hillsides and waterways in Khon Kaen, Mahasarakam, Roi Et, Kalasin, Ubon Ratchathani, Amnat Charoen, Si Sa Ket, Yasothon, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Buri Ram, Surin, Suphanburi, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, Prachin Buri, Sakaeo, Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, Chonburi, Rayong, Trat, Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, Ranong and Satun should prepare for heavy rain, flash flooding, forest run-off and possible mudslides during this weekend, he warned.
