Somsak: UK trip useful

House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont on Wednesday defended his controversial trip to England with a party of aides and reporters last month, saying it was useful and he would organise a similar trip next year.

Mr Somsak, the ex officio parliament president, insisted that he initiated the trip in good faith and believed it benefitted members of the press who joined the excursion.

Norman50 Disc 19 I say let's investigate the "War on Drugs" too. But wasn't Kanit Na Nakorn, of TCRT fame, also appointed to do that by the military junta several years ago. He said there wasn't enough evidence. Were all those 2000+ deaths extra-judicial killings by the police? Certainly there should be at least some evidence. Perhaps if there was a real investigation some important people might be implicated. Perhaps if there was a real investigation Thaksin may not appear evil enough to suit some people. Guilty till proven innocent and one can't be proven innocent because there is no investigation.

Yes, of course, useful to Somsak, but I doubt useful to Thai people.

    ringmaster disc 19

I'm afraid the UK gov. has used the military against civilians in the UK and all over the world.
Especially when they are attacked with guns and grenades and there is rioting, looting and burning.
The only difference is that the UK gov.( to protect ordinary decent citizens) would have acted much sooner and harder than the Abhisit gov. did.
Remember what your quasi dictator Thaksin ordered in his drug campaign.
What happened ringmaster - 2000 deaths?
It would seem that you are really the ringmaster for the Shinawatra circus !

He denied allegations that he and his entourage went on an extravagant and lavish trip, saying he stayed only in three to four-star hotels, which actually did not match with his position as speaker.

This statement falls into the "Do you know who I am" category. What a shameful man.

It would have been well worth the trip if the attendees studied the UK's response to the 2011 riots there and compared that to Abhisit's response to the 2010 pro-democracy protests. Control over a crowd can be accomplished without military snipers shooting innocent people.

The proposed trip next year would probably cost the taxpayers 14 Million Baht!!!

Sir, stop, damage is done days ago. Keep on denying makes you look (you probably are) like a dishonest individual living in a dream world. Any credibility you may have had is down the drain. Na tek big time.

... he initiated the trip in good faith and believed it benefited members of the press who joined the excursion.
In good faith that nobody (like the not participating press) will know about it?
And sure it benefited the press and even more sure it will benefit their reporting about the PT bunch.
    Anyway who were they?
