Senior cabinet ministers should travel to the far South to see the situation for themselves, a senior Democrat Party MP said on Friday after most businesses in the region were intimidated into remaining closed for the day.

Deputy Democrat leader and MP for Songkhla Thaworn Senniam said more than 90% of stores in the southernmost region of the country were closed for business on Friday. They were intimidated by insurgent groups and rumours of violence if they opened on a Friday, the Muslim sabbath.

The Democrat southern MP said that even though Friday was a normal shopping day for locals, at least 90% of the shops were closed and most people opted to stay in their homes.

Don't fool yourself, this 'regime' would love to bring peace to the south, it would destroy the Dems voter base and make PT electorally unbeatable. The problem is, how.

So let me see, Government meet with MP's from the South to hear their views and ideas for handling the South and they wow to cooporate ... wonder if this is the way the DEMs like this cooperation to work...via announcement in the media ..somebody, Abhisit should reign in his wild horses and cooperate ...making announcements in the media is not very helpful.

This is the worst government in the whole of the Thai history to come. Why would they care to visit the south whereby there is no money to be siphoned? The real beehive is Bangkok, safe & sound! Not long ago, we thought we saw the "RED GUARDS", who intimidated whoever come within their range. Khun Thida should by national interest, send them to the south to protect the nation and get jatuporn to share his PR doctrine with the southern aggressors. Since the southern muslims like to murder the innocents, we should give our red shirt the full support of sending around 100,000 members there to take up this patriotic task of a lifetime. How is this suggestion, yingluck?

Replacing Friday as the rest day, replacing Sunday for the 3 southern provinces will be a clear recognition of the religious and ethnic identity and will be a good sign of Thailand secular tolerance. Afterall the Malaysian states of Kelantan and Trengannu which borders the southern provinces recognizes Friday as a religious rest day. So border trade can be synchronize. Other religion can still operate just like in Malaysia where the rest of the states have Sunday as official rest day.
