No flood in Bang Pli, Bangpoo estates

The Bang Phli and Bangpoo industrial estates will not be flooded this year, according to Withoon Simachokedee, the Industry Ministry's permanent secretary.

Concrete sheet pile construction was used in building the flood prevention walls of the two industrial estates in Samut Prakan province east of Bangkok. The ministry was confident that the floodwalls are capable of preventing run-off from any flooding in the area, he said.

Bang Phli covers 1,004 rai and is home to 130 factories that employ 25,000 workers.

Mr. Simachokedee should put his job on the line to make his remark believable. During last year’s flood situation, every time some government officials came out to declare this or that, reality went the other way. “Concrete sheet pile construction used in building the flood prevention walls” only keeps the water from entering the industrial areas but the surrounding low lying areas around the industrial complex may still be flooded. Solve one problem with another problem. Maybe this time they will get another extra problem free of charge.

Would the Industry Ministry care to inform us how much of this quoted money used on flood prevention measures
    was provided by the Government.
If, as indeed was the case, the money was provided solely by the industry estate operators, why should the Government
imply credit for "no flooding in Bang Pli Bangpoo estates" ???
