City Hall and the Water and Flood Management Commission (WFMC) appear to have buried the hatchet after a row about the use of sandbags to prevent floods, following a meeting between the two which clarified the reasoning behind the flood management technique.
Piboon Klabprasit, chief of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)'s drainage and sewerage system division, said there is nothing unusual in the practice of placing sandbags in the city's drains as a flood-prevention technique.
He said it is a standard flood drainage and control measure deployed by several agencies, including the Royal Irrigation Department.
