Dems face libel suit for MIB remarks

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has instructed his lawyers and the Pheu Thai Party's legal team to bring a defamation lawsuit against Abhisit Vejjajiva and other leading Democrat Party members for their remarks about the role of the "men in black" in the United Front for Democrat against Dictatorship's (UDD) violent protests in 2010.

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said Mr Abhisit, deputy party leader Korn Chatikavanij, Surat Thani MP Suthep Thaugsuban, Songkhla MP Sirichok Sopha and Rayong MP Sathit Pitutecha would be sued.

These leading members of the Democrat Party had accused Thaksin of being behind the men in black, he said.

    @johninbkk, Disc 36. Mercenaries do not work for free : that is why they are called mercenaries.

    englishbob 35 - Are you saying these MiB individuals would have stayed home and watched TV if they weren't paid?

    JohninBKK - "Can someone point to me where in the 2012 TRCT report does it say Thaksin paid the MiB?"

    Well someone did... Someone rich. With a ruthless streak. With a lot to gain by forcing the military to act. Someone in close contact with the leader of the Black Shirts.

    Just because something isn't in the TRC report, doesn't mean it didn't happen.
    If you were in charge of investigating the financing of the MiB, who would you look at first?

    Judging by the height of the MiB, it is quite possible that the masked man is Thaksin himself.

    MIB and terrorist are lables of misdirection, misconception and merely tools used by one group against another in order to vilify and discredit so as to justify the use of force in order to maintain power over the masses. History shows this tatic is used over and over.

    englishbob(D28):
    I do understand the point you were making about the background of voters, but in suggesting that Thailand become less democratic you are looking backwards, not forward. You are, I think, also over simplifying the background of Democrat and PT supporters: both parties have support from across the social spectrum.

    Soltair(D32): I have no intention to "shoot the messenger" you are of course entitled to your opinion, but what you are advocating is an impossible dream. Better to grapple with the problems of the imperfect present than seek a return to an imagined golden age.

    Simple, Nothing happened that was planned to happen by Thaskin.

  • Discussion 29 : 16 Oct 2012 at 00.0729

    From the reliable reports that we have, Thaksin's passport would be revoked around 13-14th of November. No need to comment and curse me for this, wait until that day and I will still be here to wipe the tears of Thaskin fans. The Supreme court is already issuing an arrest warrant for Thaksin, THIS at a time when his sister and the gang of violent reds are in power. Almost no Thaksin supporter including the hardcore red leaders and many members of parliament from the P.T have already labelled Abhisit and Suthep as muderers. There is enough proof of that, so technically the Democrats can file cases against all of them. Let us stop reacting to everything that Thaksin says, this guy is on the way out. His sister in power and he has STILL not managed to get a hereos welcome in Thailand! His hopes are fading, he will try more desperate measures, there will come a time when his own loving sister will see the side of him that she never knew existed. Mark my words, read my past comments (130 of them so far) NONE have missed the mark.

    Disc23 Robingrant - The point about the backgrounds of the voters was that the undereducated supporters of Peua Thai are much less likely to do research, read newspapers or distinguish between a genuinely sound policy and and utter pile of tripe - a point I think which has been borne out over the past 14 months...

    ...can anyone name a successful PT policy? Still waiting for one of you to dare to answer. 14 months and counting.
